Mortise

Cut sheets

How do I print cutting diagrams for my project?

Use Export in Mortise. The cut sheet is a PDF with every part numbered and drawn with its dimensions, and the cutting plan lays the parts out on the boards and sheets to buy with the least waste.

Cut sheet

Every part, dimensioned.

The first page is the parts schedule: a code for each part (A1, B2, the letter for its group), the quantity, the stock and the thickness, width and length, followed by the boards to buy, the hardware and the tools.

Then each distinct part gets its own drawing: plan, front and end views with dimension chains, an isometric, the cuts in the order to make them, tables for its holes and curves, and the boards it joins to.

Cutting plan

Laid out to waste the least.

Parts are laid out on the boards and sheets the shopping list buys, with ⅛″ (3 mm) between them for the kerf and the grain running the way each part needs it. Anything that cannot fit with its grain is reported, not turned.

Paper

Made to read in the shop.

Pages are US Letter landscape in inches and A4 landscape in millimetres, with sizes to 1⁄64″ or 1 mm. Print them or download the PDF.

Questions

Questions people ask.

Can I export to CSV or a spreadsheet?
Not yet. The cut sheet and the cutting plan are PDFs.
What kerf does the cutting plan use?
⅛″ in inches and 3 mm in millimetres. It is an allowance on paper; the model is cut exactly.
Does the cutting plan respect grain direction?
Yes. Sheet parts keep the grain direction you set or that comes from how they were cut, and parts that will not fit with their grain are listed.
