White Oak Asymmetric Bookcase with Cabinet Doors | Woodworking Design

White Oak Asymmetric Bookcase with Cabinet Doors | Woodworking Design, designed in Mortise from 28 boards of white oak and black walnut.

A 72-inch-tall white oak bookcase with staggered shelves, offset dividers and four inset cabinet doors. Separated middle shelves create a sculptural layout for books and display objects, while small walnut pulls contrast with the pale oak. The case measures 42 inches wide and 11.25 inches deep.

The upper outer corners and both exposed shelf-to-divider corners are mitred to hide end grain, each reinforced with three concealed #0 biscuits. Other connections retain housed shelf joints and dowelled dividers. A screwed plywood bracing back, mortised butt hinges, magnetic catches on wooden mounting blocks and a recessed centre support complete the design.

BUILD AND INSTALLATION This is a digital woodworking design, not a load-rated or physically tested plan. All four doors were checked at 90 degrees and returned closed in Mortise. The revised model reports no overlapping or floating boards and no fastener geometry warnings.

Secure the finished bookcase to wall studs or suitable structural masonry with rated anti-tip hardware attached to substantial case members. The thin back alone is not an anchoring point. Select anchors for the actual wall and follow manufacturer instructions.

Use acclimated quarter-sawn oak for the solid slab doors and confirm seasonal movement clearances. Dry fit and glue the mitres and biscuits, verify hinge and catch templates, check drilling depths, and ensure the centre support bears firmly on the floor. Verify the assembled and anchored piece under its intended loads before use. No shelf load rating is claimed.
