Cedar Garden Arbor Bench with Lattice Sides and Pergola Roof

Cedar Garden Arbor Bench with Lattice Sides and Pergola Roof, designed in Mortise from 81 boards of western red cedar.

A Western Red Cedar garden arbor bench with a slatted two-person seat, vertical slat backrest, square lattice side panels and an open pergola roof. Shaped rafter tails, broad armrests and triangular corner braces give this outdoor woodworking design its character. The timber assembly measures 72 inches wide by 40 inches deep by 92.5 inches tall, with an 18-inch seat height in the model.

The model includes mortise-and-tenon seat rails, housed roof beams, bearing cleats beneath the seat supports, rounded seating edges and mechanical fasteners. The four roof carriage bolts have smooth heads facing outward. Specify exterior-rated adhesive, outdoor-rated loose tenons and cedar-compatible stainless hardware when developing the build specification.

Gallery: three AI-generated outdoor setting simulations followed by two actual Mortise renders of the current model. All images are 4:3. The simulations show visual placement only; no foot pads, post bases or foundations are included in the model.

Design study, not structurally certified construction plans. Mortise geometry checks do not establish load capacity, wind resistance or anchoring adequacy. Before building, have the timber connections, hardware selection, lateral bracing and site-specific foundations and post anchors reviewed by a qualified professional. Do not treat the ground contact shown in the simulations as an installation detail.
